Dear Alabama Agents,
Events that occurred April 27, 2011 will be remembered for many years to come. I have been in the field visiting the hardest hit areas and it saddens me to think of all of those people suffering. This year I celebrated my 25th anniversary with Auto-Owners and I lived through some terrible hurricanes, but this is the worst devastation I have ever seen. I'm pleased to report, none of of the Auto-owners associates suffered any damage; however, many of our agents and agency staff did not fair as well. If your agency is one of many affected by these storms, please know you, your staff, your families and neighbors are in our hearts and prayers as they recover.
The hardest hit areas to Auto-Owners appear to be in Tuscaloosa, Pleasant Grove, Cullman, Gadsden and Guntersville areas. While there were many other areas affected, these areas have the greatest number of losses. We are doing everything in our power to expedite the handling of claims fairly and promptly. As of yesterday, there have been 1700 claims reported and entered into our system and many more are still coming in to the Birmingham/Montgomery claims offices.
The region has three catastrophic teams on the ground with approximately a dozen or more adjusters in the field. United Storm Adjusters are assigned I-65 West, CAT Crew are assigned I-65 East and Evers & Associates are assigned to Birmingham and Huntsville metro areas. Also, we have five Auto-Owners field claims adjusters in the Birmingham region and four Auto-Owners branch claim adjusters to assist your automobile customers needs. We have five additional Auto-Owners adjusters from other states that arrived Sunday to assist the Birmingham area. We have four claims support staff in the Birmingham branch taking phone calls and entering in claims . This last week, two marketing reps, two underwriting field reps and I assisted in making first contact with our customers.
We understand it will take a long time to recover from this storm event, but our mission is to pay all we owe, no more than we owe and to be the best service provider in the industry. We do not take these words lightly. Please let me know if you have other thoughts or suggestions on how our region might better meet your needs or expectations during these difficult times.
Again, our thoughts are with you and your customers during this challenging time.
